February. When you are mostly over the winter, but spring is still so far away. You’re inside most of the day, all you want to do is throw on a good show, “but there is nothing to watch!” I’ve got you covered. I’m notorious for rewatching the same great shows over and over again, but that’s because I prefer binge-worthy ones that contain really deep character development. Don’t get me wrong, I love a great limited series, but those go by so quick. Although some of my absolute favorite shows have been taken off Netflix, (like Friends which moved over to HBO Max) there are still so many great shows to dive into, let’s get started, shall we?!
Young & Hungry
Young & Hungry is a cute, quirky show about two girls in their early 20s struggling to get by. Gabby, the main character of the show, ends up getting a job as a chef to a very wealthy man. The show follows her on-again-off-again relationship with him, and all of her wild and crazy antics. It’s hilarious and incredibly unrealistic at times, but a fun watch. The only downside to this show (which is huge, sadly) is the fact that the show was cancelled in the middle of a cliff hanger, so be prepared to be sad for a week… or two… but overall, great show!
The best time to start binge watching Young & Hungry, is in the spring or summer!
Criminal Minds
Criminal Minds is a great show to binge, in my opinion, because you can kind of jump around a bit. Not that I would recommend that, because there is a story line that you could miss, however, if you miss an episode here or there because you were playing on your phone too much, you will be just fine. Criminal Minds follows a team of criminal profilers for the FBI who help catch all the bad guys. You will find yourself getting very attached to the main characters, which is why I feel I should warn you: the main characters do change (not all of them) later in the series. There are currently 12 seasons to binge on Netflix, so get started!
The best time to start binge watching Criminal Minds, is in the winter!
Schitts Creek
Schitts Creek is one of my favorite shows both on and off Netflix. It follows a family go from living glamorous lives in a beautiful mansion, to losing everything and living in a motel in the middle of nowhere. The characters of this show were perfectly written for the actors and actresses that portray them. Schitts Creek is wildly hilarious, will absolutely force you to cry at times, and make you feel like a member of their insane family. You may even find yourself using some of their popular lines in real life, “ew, David!” (IYKYK) No downside to Schitts Creek, other than the fact that you’ll wish there were ten more seasons to watch. Watch it, it’s great.
The best time to start binge watching Schitts Creek, is in the spring!
Fuller House
If you grew up watching Full House, you should absolutely give Fuller house a try. It mimics the exact plot of the original, only reversed genders. Fuller house follows the story of DJ learning how to navigate raising her three young boys after her husband, their father, has passed away. Stephanie and Kimmy move in to help, just like Jesse and Joey had. It feels so nostalgic to watch, and sad at times when Danny Tanner makes his appearances. It follows love, heartbreak, new motherhood, divorce, infertility, etc. as the women take on everything that life continues to throw at them. I love Fuller House, so so much. It is a great feel-good show. Highly recommend!
The best time to start binge watching Fuller House is.. honestly any time of the year!
Gilmore Girls
Okay I couldn’t possibly have made a list of binge-worthy Netflix shows without adding Gilmore Girls, could I?! Heck no. If you don’t already know, Gilmore Girls is about a mother-daughter duo going trough life and growing up together. Lorelai Gilmore had her daughter Rory when she was only a teenager. She moved out of her parents very beautiful home and raised Rory all by herself, struggling most of the way. Gilmore Girls is the most relatable show on this list, because there are no very crazy story lines, just day to day life between a mother and daughter living in a very close knit small community. You will find yourself wishing you lived in Stars Hollow! The series kind of leaves off with a bit of a cliffhanger/ sad ending, however Netflix released a very limited (four episode) series called A year in the Life, which catches you up on all that is happening and has been happening since the end of the show. Gilmore Girls is a great watch, definitely recommend!
The best time to start binge watching Gilmore Girls, is in the fall!
Jane the Virgin
Okay, last but certainly not least, Jane the Virgin! Oh my gosh I don’t even know where to start with this one! Okay, okay, so Jane is a 23 year old virgin, she goes to the doctors for a routine pap, and accidentally gets artificially inseminated. Insane, right?! Honestly that is probably one of the least crazy things that happens on this show, just watch and you will see what I mean. It is so far fetched, but done so well that you don’t even realize it until you go to tell someone else about the show. It is a hilarious take on telenovelas (which are latin dramas or soap operas) that you will absolutely fall in love with. I just started watching it again a few nights ago, and I forgot how incredibly wild (in a great way) Jane the Virgin is. Watch it so I can have more people to talk about it with!
The best time to start bing watching Jane the Virgin, is NOW!
Obviously there are so many great shows to binge watch on Netflix, however, I wanted to keep this list kind of short and narrowed down to the ones that I don’t hear people talk about as much, barring Gilmore Girls, of course! If you’ve watched any of these shows, let me know which ones you liked or didn’t like in the comments!
Jane the Virgin is the real sleeper pick here! Great show!
Right!!!! Such a great show that I never hear people talk about! 🤯
